Transcript: Freeform Optics — Photonics Conference Virtual Tour
**Anke Mank, International Affairs, OptoNet e.V.:** Welcome everybody to the Freeform tour for your mind Freeform Optics tour.
My name is Anker on behalf of the growth for Project Consortium Freeform Optics class I welcome you to this event here at Photonics West 2020.
We will have a tour on the lands of Freefrom optics, take you to a journey to the photonics partners along the value chain. We will have six stations at six booths.
So I will start and I kindly ask you to follow me right?
About This Video
This video documents the Freeform Optics Project Consortium's presence at Photonics West 2020 — one of the optics and photonics industry's major annual conferences, held in San Francisco. The format is a virtual tour: six stations covering the freeform optics value chain from design through manufacturing to application, introduced by a consortium representative welcoming attendees to the event. Freeform optics is a precision manufacturing technology — non-traditional lens geometries that enable more compact, higher-performance optical systems across industries including defense, medical imaging, and consumer electronics. This page is a placeholder. The transcript captured from the original recording is incomplete due to technical limitations. Additional information about the six tour stations, partner organizations, and specific applications covered is needed to build out the full page. If you have access to the complete video or a more complete transcript, please share it so this page can be updated with the industrial video production content it deserves.
How do you produce a virtual tour video for a technical trade show or conference?
Structure the tour around the value chain or decision journey, not the physical layout of the booth. The most effective conference tour videos give remote viewers a reason to care about each stop — what problem does this station address, what does it show that they couldn't see anywhere else. For a technical product like freeform optics, that means connecting each station to a specific application or capability. A video that walks through six stops without explaining why each one matters is essentially a booth video that doesn't travel well outside the event.
What kinds of industrial or manufacturing companies need conference video production?
Any company that presents at trade shows or technical conferences and wants that content to work beyond the event itself. Conference presentations expire when the conference ends. A well-produced video of the presentation, the booth, or the product tour extends the shelf life of that content for months — usable for prospects who couldn't attend, for sales team follow-up, for inclusion in proposals. Industrial and manufacturing companies at events like Photonics West, MD&M, SEMICON, or IMTS often have content that's worth capturing professionally.
How do you produce a six-station virtual tour video for a trade show?
Give each station a clear introduction that states its subject before the detail. Attendees at a virtual tour have less patience than in-person visitors — they need to understand immediately why this stop matters. A title card or spoken introduction ('Station 3: Surface Fabrication') gives viewers context to decide whether to pay attention. For a six-station optics value chain tour, that means knowing before each segment whether you're watching lens design, manufacturing, metrology, or application. Without that structure, viewers disengage by station three.
